Detail shots may be small, but they tell such a big story. They’re the photographs of the little things you’ve spent so much time choosing — from your invitation suite to your rings to the perfume you’ll wear when you walk down the aisle. These photos are usually some of the first I take when I arrive on a wedding day, and they always end up being favorites in my couples’ galleries.
Why do detail shots matter? Because they capture the pieces of your day you might otherwise forget. You’ve poured so much thought into the colors, textures, and designs that make your wedding uniquely yours — documenting them ensures those choices are remembered just as beautifully as your portraits and candid moments. Want a closer look into some of my wedding galleries? Take a peak into my portfolio here.
When I arrive, I like to begin with your details while you’re getting ready. It’s helpful if you gather everything ahead of time so I can style them together in the best light and create a cohesive little story of your day. I’ll photograph them quickly and return everything right back to you, so nothing gets in the way of your timeline.
So — what should you set aside for your wedding day detail photos? Here’s a list of items I recommend having ready:
Cologne
Everyone wants to smell their best on their wedding day. Photographing the cologne you chose is a fun way to tie a scent to the memory. (And wearing it again on anniversaries or date nights? Instant nostalgia.)
Watch
A timeless detail. Whether it’s brand new or a meaningful gift, a watch adds sophistication and makes for a classic photo.
Cufflinks & Tie Clip
These small touches bring polish to your look — and styled together, they make your detail photos feel elevated.
Glasses or Sunglasses
If you wear glasses or want a few fun shots with sunglasses, include them in your detail items.
Tie
Your tie often carries your wedding colors, which adds personality to the photos. Plus, tying it on makes for great candid shots.
Shoes
From polished dress shoes to something more personal, don’t forget to set them aside. I love photographing shoes styled with other details and capturing the moment of putting them on.
Rings & Ring Box
Your engagement ring and wedding bands are the stars of detail photos. A special ring box (especially one that matches your wedding style) adds a beautiful finishing touch.
Dress & Custom Hanger
Your wedding dress deserves its own moment. A custom hanger takes those photos to the next level.
Bridesmaids Dresses
Including bridesmaids dresses styled with your gown creates a cohesive, colorful detail shot.
Invitations
You spent time choosing fonts, colors, and paper for your invitation suite — photos make sure you’ll always remember that design.
Jewelry & Bridal Belt
Necklace, bracelet, earrings, or a belt — anything you’ll wear deserves to be documented.
Bouquet & Flowers
Your bouquet is one of the prettiest details you’ll have on your day. Rings nestled into your florals always make for timeless photos.
Headpiece & Veil
Whether it’s a sparkling hairpiece or a flowing veil, these little elements add texture and romance to your photos.
Perfume
Like cologne, perfume ties scent to memory. Save a spritz for anniversaries — you’ll be instantly transported back to your wedding morning.
Shoes & Clutch
Your shoes (whether statement or simple) and clutch (for those lipstick touch-ups) are wonderful details to include.
Gathering these items ahead of time makes your morning smooth and stress-free — and ensures nothing gets missed.
